about

Taking inspiration from new-wave influences such as Roxy Music, Duran Duran and David Bowie, In A Lonely
Place is a vibrant slice of synth-soaked art-pop that combines nostalgic elements of the 80s with modern sensibilities
in order to create a sound that is full of fun. Talking about the single, Sophie explains, “this song takes inspiration from
a 1950 Nicholas Ray film of the same name. I wanted to reflect the tension and explosive nature of the movie in the
song, so the New Romantic Film Noir feel developed into a more 80s power pop thing. There is a guitar solo
to replicate a car skidding round a corner and out of control, which happens in the film and it's an awesome part of
the song! (If I do say so myself).”

First single from the album "Bogart's Eyes".

lyrics

“You knew he was dynamite”
I suppose they were right
But the love he gave made up for that
I wish we could have it back
I wish I could have him back

“Is there anything you want to make you happy?
I don’t want anyone but you”
“Is there anything you want to make you happy?
I don’t want anyone but you”

“He has to explode sometimes”
But you pushed a firework
In front of a roaring flame
When you turned the heat on him
He turned his heat on me
You know he proposed to me
But the heat had got to me

“Is there anything you want to make you happy?
I don’t want anyone but you”
“Is there anything you want to make you happy?
I don’t want anyone but you”

“It’s as much a part of him,
As the colour of his eyes”
He lashed out and we said goodbye
I shouldn’t have told those lies
His fuse couldn’t take those lies

“Is there anything you want to make you happy?
I don’t want anyone but you”
“Is there anything you want to make you happy?
I don’t want anyone but you”

Why couldn’t you have called us yesterday?
It would have meant so much to us yesterday
But today it doesn’t matter
It doesn’t matter at all
You know I always liked his face
But you put my boy in a lonely place
Your accusations followed on foot
So he got in the car to put
The best distance in he could
Screaming tyres ‘round corners
But there was nothing left here for us
The damage you’ve caused is done
He was innocent all along
It’s over now it’s done
It’s over now it’s done

“I was born when she kissed me,
I died when she left me
And I lived a few weeks while she loved me”
